Wildcats send Jets flying home

Back-to-back wins puts Swindon back in contention for play-off place

Wildcats took to the ice looking to bag their second home win of the weekend, as they played host to 2nd place local rivals Slough Jets.

It was a very physical and fast paced start to the game as expected and it was the homeside who were first to net a goal at the half-way point of the first period through a shot from Jason Cassells.

Swindon extended their lead in the second period which saw tempers heating up on the ice, there was a lack of discipline from Jets as cheap shots from the Greener brothers and ex-Wildcat Ryan Watt were seen by everybody in the rink except for the referee, Swindon were glad to hear the buzzer for the end of the period.

It was clear that the period break was a chance for Jets coach Peter Russell to calm his men down, and they came out in the final period a much more focused and determined side.

However, it was Swindon’s Josef Kohut who managed to net Swindon’s 3rd goal of the night. Swindon seemed to sit back at this point and with Slough having more of the possession they pulled back 2 goals in 3 minutes making the score line 3-2 going into the final 2 minutes.

Swindon Defender Jan Krajecek was sent to the sin bin for delaying the game giving Slough the 5 on 4 advantage, the away side then pulled their keeper giving them an extra skater.

With shots flying in, Swindon keeper Chris Douglas who kept his team in the lead until the final buzzer was sounded.

Saturday night

With just over a handful of games remaining Swindon needed a win in order to keep there playoff hopes alive. With the visit of 3rd place Guildford Flames their task wouldn’t be easy.

As expected the game got off to a fast pace with both teams looking hungry for the puck. The first goal of the period came at the half way point via Matt Foord after some excellent passing.

Guildford looked to step up a gear and it wasn’t long before they found the net and the period ended 1-1. The second period was just as high tempo as the first with both teams looking to snatch an early goal.

Chris Douglas in the Swindon net made some outstanding saves to keep the scoreline level. Jan Krajicek was next to find the net with a slap shot from the blue line given the homeside a 2-1 lead.

Guildford scored there 2nd of the night to tie the game 5 minutes into the 3rd period. Jozef Kohut scored the cats 3rd of the night after some excellent stick handling in front of goal to give the homeside the edge.

With just over a minute left the flames pulled the netminder to get the extra skater and to try and grab a late equalizer, all the play was in the Swindon net as the flames piled on the pressure.

With some good keeping and defending they were unable to get a goal and the game ended with a much deserved win for the home team.
